Pateros Washington Tourism

The city of Pateros is located at the southern most end of Okanogan County, at the confluence of the Methow and Columbia Rivers.

Pateros was one of the earliest towns in Okanogan County. Settlers were drawn to the area because of the beautiful setting. The Wells Dam project in 1966 created the most challenging transformation of Pateros. The water level of the Columbia River would be higher as a result of the dam and the town needed to move to higher ground.

The rebuilding of Pateros has been focused on the location and the wonderful recreational opportunities. Pateros is in the center of a large recreation area. Wells Dam pool provides 17 miles of the best “dammed” lake in the state for fishing and water recreation. In Pateros (or a short distance from Pateros) you can: ski, snowboard, snowshoe, snowmobile, water ski, jet ski, canoe, kayak, boat, hike, fish, hunt, golf, camp or bird watch.

The summer salmon run is incredible. In the fall the fishermen are drawn to the Methow and Columbia Rivers for excellent salmon and steelhead fishing. Hunting is a short drive from town.

Winter brings a wide variety of recreational options. The spring river rafting is always exciting. Summer is a time for all the water sports on Lake Pateros. The city park offers a waterfront opportunity for community events such as: City Wide Garage Sale in June; the Annual Apple Pie Jamboree in July; Hydro Races in August; reunions and countless other activities. Tourism has become a year-round opportunity in Pateros and it is a great place to visit.
