The San Juan Islands are highly desired for outdoor adventure vacations and romantic getaways. Three of the islands - Lopez, Orcas and San Juan - have accommodations, attractions and amenities including visitor centers operated by their Chambers of Commerce.
Getting here is half the fun! Take a scenic 30-45 minute flight from Seattle. Or take a Washington State Ferry. Ferry fares from Anacortes include round-trip travel, making eastbound travel toward the mainland free and easy. Seasonal foot passenger ferry service is also available from many locations.
The “rain shadow” of the Olympic Mountains provides an average of 247 days with sunshine annually and about half the rain of the mainland. Spring and fall are especially enticing, when the weather and serenity combine for a memorable visit. Watchable wildlife, particularly orca whales and eagles, is everywhere. See them both from the shore or take a wildlife watching cruise. Sea kayaking, hiking, biking and scuba diving are also popular outdoor activities.
Come for farmers markets, restaurants serving island-grown organic produce, performing arts centers, galleries and waterfront parks, including the San Juan Island National Historical Park.
