North Mason County includes the towns of Allyn, Belfair, Dewatto, Tahuya, Grapeview, Victor and Union. Visitors to this area have many places to go to indulge their love of the outdoors.
The Hood Canal Watershed Project Center, in Belfair, the Tahuya State Forest, west of Belfair, The Allyn Waterfront Park, Belfair State Park, Twanoh State Park, Tahuya State Forest and Port of Dewatto Campground are just a few of the many places you can visit to walk, bicycle, swim, hike or camp. For the golfer there are four golf courses in the area.
Be sure and see the Theler Wetlands. This is special because you can find both freshwater and salt marsh wetlands, forested uplands and estuarine habitats. The wetlands have approximately 150 different types of birds and 200 plant families.
Bird sightings depend on the time of year, the wetlands change depending on the time of day and the seasons. There is a trail system located here that is wheelchair accessible. The trail is approximately 4 miles in length and takes the average walker about 1 to 1-1/2 hours to complete. |
